This fall, our classroom guidance lessons are focusing on the themes of gratitude and kindness. To help our students understand what these mean in action, we are going to be doing some service projects at school. We are also learning how one simple act of kindness can create a chain reaction and one student has the power to change the whole world!
One of the service projects that we are going to do is Then Feed Just One. Then Feed Just One is a non-profit, mobile food packing service that works to feed one of the poorest countries in the world; Honduras. The food we package here at East Elementary will be distributed to orphanages, children’s homes, and the general population in Honduras. Our packing event will be during the first week of school in December. Your student will be able to help prepare the food packages sent to Honduras. There is a small cost to purchase the food and materials to have Then Feed Just One at our school. Each meal that we package will cost $0.16. In order for us to help cover our costs, we are having a spare change drive in each classroom during the month of November.
During December, we will also be having a canned food drive to help support our local food bank. The food bank for O’Brien County is located in Primghar and serves the entire county. They serve many families and they have a great need for food and dry goods. Any family that has a food need may go to their building, The O’Brien County Outreach Center located in downtown Primghar.
Any spare change or canned goods your student and family is able to donate will help show our students at East that we can make a difference in the lives of others, no matter how small the act of kindness is!
