Yesterday participants in The Champion Network had a year-end celebration where Young Orabs from East Elementary & their high school Champions met one final time for the school year. They had ice cream sundaes and got to take home photos to remember the first year of a successful mentorship program at Sheldon Community Schools! Exploring new realms of creativity in our Writers Makerspace during English 9 at the Sheldon High School. Students were able to create a character that would be featured in their creative short story. Kindergarten is working hard on learning heart words at the end of the year! One fun game they played was Heart Word Name Hunt. Students are given a heart word to be their new name and they have to write all of their classmates new names. A fun way to practice heart words! More coding fun at Sheldon Middle School this week! Students in Ms. Nordahl's class were put through various challenges with their robots where students had to properly code their robot to complete the challenge. 6th graders in Mrs. Simonsen's class put their critical thinking skills to the test with Lego coding! Students utilized the Lego for Education Spike Essential Kits to build a carnival game of their choice and then program it using block coding to communicate with the motor, light, color sensor, or gyro sensor, bringing their project to life. The kids in Mrs. Vogel's class have started a Brew Buggy at the Middle School. They offer hot drinks and breakfast bars to the teachers and 7th/8th grade students on Monday and Friday mornings. We are proud to share that our very own Sheldon High School students had the incredible opportunity to participate in the 2024 Central Space Design Competition held in Houston, Texas! Hosted by InSimEd and located at the prestigious Johnson Space Center at the Gilruth Center facility, this competition was nothing short of extraordinary. Twenty schools from Iowa, including Sheldon, traveled to Houston, organized by NWAEA. With approximately 140 students from across Iowa and Texas, our Sheldon students delved into a simulation game set in the future. On the first day, they were treated to a captivating keynote speech and engaged in a Moon Quiz, setting the stage for an enriching experience. Anita Gale's introduction to the competition sparked enthusiasm, and students wasted no time diving into their roles within their respective companies.
