"Team Up With a Good Book" was the theme today at East Elementary.
Students participated in reading activities in their classroom throughout the day. Each classroom also had a high school reader come read a story to them. The afternoon was spent out at the high school football field where students participated in different activities and watched a video on the new scoreboard where the high school students explained to them why reading is important!
Overall, "Team Up With A Good Book" was a great day!

1B and 3B students at East Elementary read together every Wednesday afternoon.
First graders proudly read their word cards and books to their third grade buddies. Third graders are great role models and leaders as they listen to students and help them solve any tricky words.
Seeing the the friendships grow throughout the year is so powerful! “Reading Buddies” is definitely a highlight of the week for many students!

Friday, Sheldon will host the first home varsity football game on the new turf field using the new scoreboard.
If you have been by the field, you can see the new scoreboard is a big improvement from what we used to have. This scoreboard allows for video footage. With the addition of the new scoreboard and features, some of our students are able to learn how to run and help with the programing of the scoreboard for game night
Mr. Maggert has been working with students, teaching them how to use the new program and to help run the scoreboard on Friday night. We are excited for Friday night and for everyone to see all of the new features that Orab Field has to offer.
We hope to see you at the game tomorrow!

Our middle and high school students have had some exciting activities this week. The Middle School P.E class spent time practicing their water sport skills with canoeing and paddle boarding. Thanks to our bus driver John Jinkinson for letting this class come out to his pond for this activity.
The high school had the Army National Guard bring in their rock wall for students to climb while also discussing the opportunity of joining the guard.
Thanks to all who help make these experiences possible for our students!

Students have been learning all about MAT MAN in preschool.
They worked together in pairs to try to put him together.
Students are working on their critical thinking skills as well as teamwork!

Mrs. Vogel's class went and visited the Clay County Fair today.
The students got to ride the rides, pet some animals and even got to watch the horse show. Our students had a great day experiencing the fair!

East Elementary will be having "Team up with a Good Book" on Friday.
Students are encouraged to wear a favorite team shirt, jersey or Orab gear for the fun filled day.
Students will have high school athletes come be guest readers, STEM and reading activities throughout the day and an afternoon of fun on the new turf field!

Students in Mrs. Nilson's ELL class discussed the events of 9/11 and what happened in the United States 21 years ago. After their discussion they wrote letters to first responders thanking them for what they do for us and our country. This was a great way to practice and use their English writing skills.
This is a great reminder for all of us to thank those that serve and help our country and area daily.

7th Graders in Mrs. Woelber's class have been reviewing their number sense skills this week. Groups rotated around to different review stations to review their skills in preparation for their test. Having students up, moving and reviewing with hands on activities is a great way for them to practice and retain their skills.

Students at East Elementary take time each day to attend a "special" class period. Students rotate through a 4 day rotation that consists of P.E, Music, Guidance and Library.
A variety of different skills are learned in each of these classes whether its learning how to properly throw a ball, check out a good book, learn how to treat others, or learning about instruments, our students are exposed to many different areas of learning during this time!

Sheldon Middle School Staff representing their favorite teams for the big inner state game this weekend. We want to know are, you team Iowa or Iowa State?

Lots of hands on learning happening in Ms. Nordahl's 5th grade science class. The students have been practicing finding the mass of different items around the room as they begin their measuring unit.
Way to go 5th Grade!

Students in Mrs. Popkees' Family Consumer Science room get to learn and try many new things and skills that they might not otherwise get to. One student is in the beginning stages of sewing her own purse, while others are working on a project where they are researching fashion of the past.

Sheldon Middle School students are learning all about color and design in art class. Some students are working on a "Drip Art" project while others are choosing to use color in designs already made. The creativity being shown by our students is amazing.
