***DISTRICT UPDATE***
Having served our community for 54 years, our high school’s physical infrastructure is showing signs of age, and our systems are growing obsolete. In response, a comprehensive District master plan was completed to outline a sustainable, long-term solution that would revitalize as much of the existing building as possible.
To ensure our objectives are aligned, we actively engaged our valued staff, students, and community members in surveys and engagement sessions. Through these efforts, we identified key areas of focus: Health and Well-Being, Safety & Security, ADA Regulations, Educational Technology, Specialized Programs, Capacity, Attracting/Retaining Teachers, Aging Facilities, and Community Pride.
On September 13th, the School Board unanimously approved the petition to propose a $19.16 million bond referendum be placed on the November 7th ballot. Check back here for more information or the "Bond Info" tab on our website: www.sheldonschools.com

Congratulations to Eric Van Maanen, who has been named a semifinalist in the national merit scholarship competition for 2023.
Over 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2024 National Merit
Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed
scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.

On Wednesday, members of the SHS Student Leadership Team attended the Student Council Officer Training at MVAOCOU High School. The day included interactive leadership activities and collaboration with Student Council members from five other Northwest District Schools. It was a great day for our students to meet other leadership teams and learn more about being a leader in the school!

4th graders at East Elementary learned about the events that happened on 9/11 in various classes today. In art class, they each worked on a section of a 9/11 remembrance mural. Each 4th grader had a different part of the mural and when they all put them together, this is how it looked!
