5th graders have been learning about how to find the different parts of a story using the plot diagram. A plot diagram is a line graph of the story's events, beginning with the story’s start on the left and continuing toward the right, ending with the story’s conclusion. Different parts of the plot diagram that the students are learning about include the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and conclusion. Great work 5th Grade! #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #reading #plotdiagram

In High School Chemistry, students observed what happens to the temperature of water during the phase changes from a solid to a liquid to a gas. They collected temperature data every minute for about 20 minutes while heat energy was constantly being added to the system. Students then graphed their data, identified the different variables of the experiment, and gave a reasoning to the results they obtained. Great work Chemistry students! #Sheldon #Chemistry #orabs #sheldonorabs #leadOn #highschool

Kindergarteners took the lead today during the East Elementary school assembly and taught the rest of the school what it means to, "Sharpen the Saw." Sharpen the Saw is the 7th habit from the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The Sheldon Community School District focuses on the habits from this book each year to help our students learn how to grow as leaders in their life, at school and in the future. 4th Grader Eli Becker was also recognized for his leadership in doing the school announcements every morning at East Elementary. A lot of our students know the voice, but they were able to see who Eli was today! Great Job Kindergarten!! #LeadOn #Leaderinme #schoolassemlby #Elementaryschool #sheldonorabs #orabs

The Middle School gym was full of laughter, learning, cheering and movement this morning for their school wide assembly! Students participated in a relay race with five kids from their homeroom or TA to kick off the assembly. They had to suck air through the straw to hold the paper heart up, while they went across the gym and then drop it in the cup held by their TA advisor. Teachers and students then switched roles in a skit to demonstrate how to follow directions. "Mrs. Lang" and "Mrs. Wolf" (two 8th grade students) helped lead the review with their class, played by the teachers. To end the assembly the whole school body practiced following directions by dancing to the "Cupid Shuffle." #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #sheldonmiddleschool #assembly

Not only did we celebrate Valentines Day today, but we celebrated the Middle School Staff for reaching a big goal they had! The Sheldon Middle School has now been labeled as a high performing school based on the Iowa School Performance Profile, which includes ISASP student test scores and some other measures. The middle school staff has worked hard to help their students improve their academic skills so they could then perform well on their ISASP tests. Today Mr. Meyer and Mrs. Zoet invited the staff into the library before school today to congratulate them on their hard work. The staff enjoyed some donuts, muffins, and breakfast pizza to start their day. Thank you to all of our staff that works hard to help our students improve each day! We appreciate the work you do for our district! #LeadON #Orabs #Sheldon #middleschool #testscores #congratulations

Quickwrites are done twice a week in English 10 at the High School. Students write about different topics during this time in a variety of different writing styles throughout the year. The length of each Quickwrite gets longer throughout the year to increase their writing stamina. They also have specific revision time to work on continually making their writing better! #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #writing #improvement #englishclass

Mr. Miller attained his B.A. degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, his M.Ed. from Dordt, and his Ed.S from Wayne State. Prior to serving as secondary principal at Tekamah, he was the associate principal at North Platte for a couple of years. Kindergarteners are learning how to read more and more each day. Part of learning how to read is to be able to identify and know their heart words. Heart words are words that students are unable to sound out and need to know by looking at them. The students all were given a new heart word "name". The students then did a scavenger hunt and wrote down everyone's new heart word name. The kindergarteners had such a fun time practicing their heart words. #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #reading #games #teachingideas

We have very talented students in our buildings. These 6th graders did some outstanding figure drawings. The students could not use any tracing or grid work in their drawings. This is just an sample of some of the incredible drawings that our students have done. If you are ever in the Middle School building, be sure to check out some of our student art work on display next to the art room. #LeadOn #art #drawings #middleschool #sheldonorabs #orabs #famouspeople

Sheldon Middle School students are learning how to set personal goals and work towards reaching them. The 6th grade students set some personal reading goals for the months of December and January. The students worked towards their goal each day. As a reward, the students who reached their goals were able to enjoy a afternoon of Bingo with some great prizes. Great work 6th grade! #goalsetting #LeadOn #Orabs #sheldon #middleschool #readinggoals #reading #bingo
