Sheldon Community School District will be running 2 hours late today due to weather. There will be no AM preschool.

2nd Grade has been working on improving their reading fluency. One way that students can improve their fluency is by doing choral reading. Choral reading is when students read together in unison. Choral reading helps build students' fluency, self-confidence, and motivation. Because students are reading aloud together, students have built-in support. This is also a great way to read with your child at night to help them gain confidence and become a more fluent reader. #Leadon #Orabs #reading #choralreading

Biology students have been learning about DNA in class. Students performed a strawberry DNA extraction lab to see what DNA actually looks like. Many people assume that because DNA is so small, that you can't see it without powerful microscopes. But in fact, DNA can be easily seen with the naked eye when collected from thousands of cells. Through this lab students were better able to see the DNA of a strawberry and better understand the structure of purpose of DNA. #Orabs #Biology #LeadOn

Kindergarteners reviewed their number recognition with a fun Turkey review activity before Thanksgiving break. Kindergarteners have been working hard to learn all of their numbers 1-20 by recognition, counting, grouping, writing and sorting the numbers in various ways. Before long they will be adding and subtracting basic facts!

Our 1st and 3rd graders are thankful for their reading buddies! Each week the 1st and 3rd graders get together to do a different reading activity. This week they did a fun turkey activity with with their reading buddies after reading a book about turkeys! #LeadOn #Orabs #thanksgiving

The 5th through 8th grade students each got a feather today to write something that they are thankful for. Once everyone had their feather done, students brought together their feathers to create a "Thankful Turkey." We have so much to be thankful for at the Sheldon Middle School! Today from 3-6 PM, the Sheldon Community Schools will have their garage sale items available for purchase and viewing. Items will be available in the East Elementary basement and in the shop space on the north end of the preschool building at The Little Orab Learning Center. What do you see when you look underwater? The 5th graders have been working on an art project showing what you would see if you looked underwater. The students had the option to draw or paint what they would see. Some students showed what it would look like in the ocean, while others picked what you would see if you looked in a lake. It is great to see how creative and talented our students are. #LeadOn #Orabs #art

The 6th graders focused on an activity this week that practiced Habit 6: Synergize, from the book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," by Stephen Covey. Students had to see which group could work together to build the tallest “Leaning Tower of Feetza.” The tallest tower was 72 centimeters tall! Throughout the year, our students continue to learn more about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and apply the habits to everyday situations. #LeadOn #Sheldon #Orabs

Our High School Students have an option to take Community Service as a class for some of the year. These students can pick different areas in the community to do this class. Many students choose to help out at the Elementary and Middle School during this class. Some of the tasks the students help out with include helping our teachers prep class materials, work with students on homework and skills or just have a few minutes to hang out and form relationships with underclassmen. #LeadOn #Orabs

Our High School Staff toured local businesses on Wednesday afternoon to learn more about the operations at these businesses in town and the skills local employers are looking for in their employees. Thank you to Rosenboom, Maintainer, Village Northwest Unlimited and Rome for speaking with our High School Staff and helping us prepare our students for the workforce! #LeadOn #Sheldon #Orabs

Congratulations to our new National Honor Society Members that were inducted to the Sheldon High School National Honor Society on Tuesday! New senior members include: Akoya Cabanas, Isabelle Freeman, Madison Olson and Reese Strouth. New junior members include: Zachary Brinkman, Katelyn Dykstra, Tori Elgersma, Ethan Frangenberg, Macy Jager, Dana Konz, Brinda McCabe Nuckols, Matthew Meyer, Madison Nunes and Paige Weber. 8th Graders presented their Science Fair Projects last night to the judges and public to be evaluated. Many weeks ago, students came up with a hypothesis and spent weeks testing, recording and evaluating their hypothesis. Once students were done with their testing and recording, they created a science report in the form of a board to display and explain their findings. Great job 8th grade! #LeadOn #Orabs #sciencefair

In P.E our Kindergarteners have been learning and practicing their dribbling, passing and shooting skills in their basketball unit. Mr. Fischer has been working on the fundamentals of basketball in P.E over the past few weeks with the Elementary students.
