The Sheldon FCA Group is excited to be helping to distribute and fill boxes for Operation Christmas Child! Their goal is to fill at least 120 boxes, this goal is 5 more boxes than they filled last year. They are asking for your help in reaching their goal! If you are interested in helping out or have questions, please contact Mr. Letsche at the High School for more information. A rough estimate is the cost to fill a box is around $25. In addition there is also a suggested $10 donation for shipping. There are instructions inside the boxes as to what things can and cannot go in the boxes. Also, information about age appropriate gifts. #orabs #leadon

Dr. Erin Anderson from Sheldon Family Dental Clinic in Sheldon came to talk with the seniors in Physics class on Friday about undergrad and graduate programs. Students learned the difference between the two, what you can do with a degree from both and students were able to ask any other questions they had about college. Thanks Dr. Anderson for coming in to talk to our students! #leadon #orabs #collegeprep

CAPS has Student-Associates that develop problem-solving and professional skills to work on real projects for real business clients. This experience along with focused development on career exploration helps prepare each of them for their purpose beyond their life as a student. CAPS is an example of how business, community and education can partner to produce personalized learning experiences that educate the workforce of tomorrow. The second graders at East Elementary led this month's all school assembly! Students did a reader's theater to give examples of how to make the right choices when it comes to school work and balancing all of the other things they like to do. Great job second grade! #leadon #secondgrade #orabs

5th graders have had some exciting days of hands on learning in Ms. Nordahl's science class. Students observed chemical reactions with elephant toothpaste. Students then had to find evidence from the experiment to prove why it was a chemical reaction in a write-up that followed. The 5th graders also made Oobleck, which is a Non-Newtonian fluid. Students were able to see how Oobleck acts like a solid and a liquid.

Students in Biology did a cell membrane lab to observe its function, structure, and behavior. Students were able to learn the different concepts associated with cell membranes: Concept 1: Membranes are fluid and flexible. Concept 2: Membranes can self-repair. Concept 3: Eukaryotic cells feature membrane bound organelles. Concept 4: Proteins provide a passageway for large or electrically charged molecules. This was a great lab for students to "see" what is happening in the cell. #leadon #orabs

3rd graders went on a mystery scavenger hunt during library class. Students practiced looking for mystery books throughout the library. They've practiced searching for books before, but this time Mrs. De Zeeuw and Mrs. Freymann added a twist—students had to hunt in the dark with flashlights to find the correct books. #leadon #orabs

6th graders sharpen their survival skills. They completed stations of cord braiding, knot making, spear throwing and the favorite, fire making. This activity was a great way for students to make connections with the main character, Brian, while they are reading the book, "Hatchet". Thanks to Matt Jurgens for helping with this activity. #leadon #orabs

7th graders are working on developing fraction sense in math class. In class they used pictures to help them determine the smallest, biggest, those close to half, and then ordered them. Being able to "see" the fraction amount helps our students' better understand the variety of fractions that they will be working with throughout their fraction units. #leadon #orabs #math

East Elementary is continuing to focus on the book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," the book by Stephen Covey to help our students develop their leadership skills throughout the year. Second grade students practiced Habit 2, "Begin with the End in Mind" with groups this week. Students were asked to create a paper chain out of one piece of paper, that reached a specific distance. Students were not given instructions on how many circles they needed, rather they were to work as a group to decide how they could create a paper chain, that met the requirements. Our students worked well as a groups through this activity practicing their leadership skills. #leadon #orabs
