Kindness week
Kindergarteners are learning how to read more and more each day. Part of learning how to read is to be able to identify and know their heart words. Heart words are words that students are unable to sound out and need to know by looking at them. The students all were given a new heart word "name". The students then did a scavenger hunt and wrote down everyone's new heart word name. The kindergarteners had such a fun time practicing their heart words. #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #reading #games #teachingideas

These two students at East Elementary worked together to make a continuous chain of sight word cards as they practiced each of their words. A fun and interactive way to practice their sight words! #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #sightwords #elementary #learning #reading #practice #teamwork

Today is National Read Aloud Day! The High School Library Club visited East Elementary to celebrate and read aloud to each classroom. Tonight would be a great night to sit with your child and read aloud to them. Reading aloud is one of the most important things parents and teachers can do with children. Reading aloud introduces vocabulary, shows students how to read fluently, allows students to hear expressive reading, and helps children recognize what reading for pleasure is all about! #nationalreadaloudday #orabs #sheldon #orabs #sheldonorabs #reading #readaloud #books

Our Kindergarteners are loving their Bee-Bots. Bee-Bots are a perfect starting point for teaching control, directional language, and programming for our Kindergarteners at East Elementary. Students have been learning how to work with the Bee-Bots throughout the year and are already learning how to program the Bee-Bots in more complicated ways. Way to go Kindergarten! #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon

East Elementary students got to enjoy some fun activities of their choice after learning more about Habit 7 from the book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." Habit 7 talks about Sharping the Saw, which means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have—you! It means having a balanced program for self-renewal in the four areas of your life: physical, social/emotional, mental, and spiritual. Our students got to practice Sharpening the Saw, by taking some time to do some activities that they enjoy and have some fun with their friends. Each classroom had a different activity that the kids could pick from. Some of the activities included Legos, free drawing, playdough, board games, puzzles, darts, and more! It was so fun to see our students get to Sharpen their Saw and enjoy some fun activities of their choice! #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #7habitsofhighlyeffectivepeople

Mrs. Buenger's 1st graders made some winter snowmen during their art class. The students did so well with this very large art project. It's safe to say that the students could make a real snowman outside, just as big or bigger with all the snow that we have had this year! If you drive by East Elementary, you can see these snowmen waving to your from the window! #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #snowman #winter #art
