Preschool students are doing a Transportation Study this week and they are having so much fun and learning a lot!
In dramatic play, students have been pretending to be mechanics working on different cars. They even have got to dress up like mechanics. We might have some future mechanics in this class!
Preschool students have also learned about different types of transportation vehicles and the jobs that they do.

The students in 1st grade got to experience the Star Lab last week.
1st graders were able to go inside of the lab and see how the night sky looks during different seasons. Such a great experience for our students to learn more about the stars.

What is a Leader?
The Sheldon CSD School Board was able to learn from the East Elementary students and teachers what it means to be a leader at school.
Some of our Kindergarten through 4th grade students came to the board meeting last night and answered some questions from board members and building principals about how they work to be a good leader in their school each day.
The teachers also shared with the board how they implement leadership skills in their teaching each week to help the students grow their leadership skills.
We are proud of our students and teachers for their leadership work for our district!

The School Board approved the snow make-up days last night at the board meeting. See below for a more detailed breakdown of the snow make-up day plan. Reminder we WILL have school next Monday, January 16 and all Wednesdays moving forward will be full days.
Wednesdays, starting January 18, will be full days of school for the remainder
of the school year, to allow us to reclaim lost instructional time. Teachers will
have Wednesday professional development starting at 3:30pm and they will
make up some additional professional development during Flex PD
Days. This adjustment will account for our first five snow days.

Daily reading groups are a big focus at East Elementary.
Students participate in whole group learning and assignments, but each day teachers will pull different reading groups to work with their students in a small group setting.
Small-group instruction provides opportunities for differentiated learning. With the smaller number of students, students have more chances to answer questions and read aloud. Teachers are also able to monitor the students better and can provide better and ore individualized support.

Reminder that the Elementary Christmas Concert for 2nd and 4th grade is tonight!
December 15 - 2nd & 4th grade Concert, 7pm HS Auditorium
Please have your musician dress up for this event.
Students will meet at 6:30pm the night of their concert. A high school classroom will be assigned for each section to use as a homebase. This will be where you can drop off and pick up your child. This is also where they can keep their hats and coats.
The youngest grade will begin promptly at 7pm. Once they are done there will be a short intermission before the older grade level performs.

Thursday, December 15 will be a 2-Hour Late Start. No AM Preschool.
Kindergarten through 4th Grade students at East Elementary are learning about simple acts of kindness in Mrs. Hennings' Guidance Classes. Students have been talking about how they can make someone's day better by a simple gesture, smile, talking to someone that looks sad, or even sending someone something to brighten their day.
Students are currently working on making holiday cards for the soldiers that are unable to make it home for the holiday season. Their hope is to make them smile and be happy, even if they can't make it home during the holiday season.
