Last Friday the 5th graders were able to spend the day at Arnolds Park with other 5th graders from the area as a celebration for completing the D.A.R.E Program. D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches 5th graders how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. #LeadOn #orabs #DARE #Sheldonorabs #sheldonmiddleschool #arnoldspark

7th and 8th grade teachers caught an Orab in action today at the Omaha Zoo during the 7th and 8th grade field trip. Ben Meendering (class of 2011) works at the zoo in the giraffe area and took some time from his day to show the teachers a little more about what his day looks like. Thanks Ben! #LeadOn #orabs #sheldonorabs #orabsinaction #omahazoo #zoo

5th graders have the option to "Level Up" their skills throughout the year after they finish the required work for the day. If a student gets done with their required tasks they have some different enrichment problems that they can work through to earn points to level up. This is a great way for our students to keep pushing themselves to work towards higher goals as well as improve their critical thinking skills. #LeadOn #orabs #sheldonorabs #math #criticalthinking #LeadOn #orabs #sheldonorabs #levelup

6th graders just completed learning about potential and kinetic energy. To test their understanding students completed the Roller Coaster Challenge. Students had to design a rollercoaster that had drop offs, loops, curves, and hills, but also was "safe" for the marble to travel on. Students then tested the different rollercoasters by dropping a marble down the coaster. They had to record the mass of the marble, the distance the marble traveled, the acceleration, and then finally calculate the potential energy. Our students did such a great job with the construction and calculations for this project! #LeadOn #orabs #sheldonorabs #science #STEM

8th Graders at Sheldon Middle School just completed their Mythology Unit in English. As a final project, students are creating Mythology Commercials that they have to write, record, and then edit to be watched by their classmates! The students are having a great time bringing these mythological characters to life in their commercials. #LeadOn #orabs #sheldonorabs #mythology #creativeprojects #middleschool #englishclass

Have you ever wonder what a popular food is in India or Norway? Have you ever wondered what some popular activities are in France or Egypt? The 7th graders answered all of these questions and more at the 7th Grade Cultural Fair this week at the Sheldon Middle School. Students researched different countries and then created a board presentation to share their information on their country. Some students even dressed the part and had a special treat from their country to share with those that came to visit their country! #LeadOn #orabs #sheldonorabs #culture #sheldon #sheldonmiddleschool

5th graders were able to practice their coding skills with the Ozobots. The Ozobot follows lines drawn on white paper. Colors drawn in different sequences tell the Ozobot what to do. Our students had a great time creating their own codes for the Ozobots. Great work 5th grade! #LeadON #orabs #coding #iowacoding #middleschool #STEM #ozobots #codingwithozobots

Do you know how to calculate the density of a liquid? (Density = mass/volume) The sixth grade science students first learned how to find the mass of a liquid so they then could calculate the density of the liquid. After all calculations were complete, they poured the liquids into a beaker and checked to see if the way the liquids layered matched their calculations. They did! Excellent calculations! #Orabs #sheldon #LeadOn #sheldonorabs #science

7th grader Aftyn Dietrick created the winning pixel art for the second semester at Sheldon Middle School. As a winner, her art was then enlarged into a mural that will hang in the Middle School. Aftyn and and number of seventh graders worked together to enlarge and transfer the grid, match colors, and paint every square. The team included Ana Chavez-Morales, Estrella Chavez-Morales, Justina Van Regenmorter, Lesly Ramos-Morales, Addisyn Kavanagh, and Bailey Harn. The sixth grade students were given four mystery liquids and had to test the chemical property of flammability. They dipped strips of paper into each of the four mystery liquids and then held the strip of paper over an open flame. As you can see in the pictures, they were surprised to find that one of the liquids was flammable!!!! #LeadOn #orabs #sheldonorabs #science #sheldon #sheldonmiddleschool
