The 6th grade students have been learning about ancient civilizations. This week as a review activity, the students had to sort the beliefs and accomplishments of the Maya, Inca, and Aztecs civilizations into a triple Venn Diagram.
The students had fun getting to sort the information with their classmates and hula hoops!

Last night was filled with great music from the Sheldon Community School District Choirs.
Our choir students from 7th-12th grade performed in the Procession of Choirs at the High School.
This was a great opportunity for the community and parents to see the vocal talents of our students!
Thank you to our students and instructors for making this such a great night!

6th graders created taco trucks to review decimal operations. Students had to design a menu with good prices, and manipulate those prices using decimal knowledge.
To add to the fun, they got to create a truck with fun slogan and design!
Great work 6th grade!

5th graders have been learning about how to find the different parts of a story using the plot diagram.
A plot diagram is a line graph of the story's events, beginning with the story’s start on the left and continuing toward the right, ending with the story’s conclusion. Different parts of the plot diagram that the students are learning about include the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and conclusion.
Great work 5th Grade!

The Middle School gym was full of laughter, learning, cheering and movement this morning for their school wide assembly!
Students participated in a relay race with five kids from their homeroom or TA to kick off the assembly. They had to suck air through the straw to hold the paper heart up, while they went across the gym and then drop it in the cup held by their TA advisor.
Teachers and students then switched roles in a skit to demonstrate how to follow directions. "Mrs. Lang" and "Mrs. Wolf" (two 8th grade students) helped lead the review with their class, played by the teachers.
To end the assembly the whole school body practiced following directions by dancing to the "Cupid Shuffle."

Not only did we celebrate Valentines Day today, but we celebrated the Middle School Staff for reaching a big goal they had!
The Sheldon Middle School has now been labeled as a high performing school based on the Iowa School Performance Profile, which includes ISASP student test scores and some other measures. The middle school staff has worked hard to help their students improve their academic skills so they could then perform well on their ISASP tests.
Today Mr. Meyer and Mrs. Zoet invited the staff into the library before school today to congratulate them on their hard work. The staff enjoyed some donuts, muffins, and breakfast pizza to start their day.
Thank you to all of our staff that works hard to help our students improve each day! We appreciate the work you do for our district!
