7th and 8th graders attend class daily in the technology lab. These students are currently learning how to build a robot that moves. Throughout the year students rotate to different "Expeditions" to learn more about that specific content area. At the "Expeditions" students participate in hands on learning, building, testing and more. Some of the Expeditions that students rotate to include: Rolling Robots, Optical Solutions, Flight Dynamics, Design Time, Communication, Tower Power, Thermal Physics and more. This is an awesome opportunity for our students to learn more about different content areas that they otherwise might not be exposed to and could potentially lead to some future career interests. #LeadOn #Orabs #Technology #STEM

5th grade students in Ms. Nordahl's Science Class are learning about the four spheres of the Earth. Students have learned about the biosphere, geosphere and today the students dived into learning more about the hydrosphere. As an introduction to learning more about the hydrosphere, students worked in groups and traveled around the room to different learning stations. At each station they had to scan a QR code to bring up a video that would give more information about the hydrosphere. Students were responsible for recording information they learned about the hydrosphere as they traveled to each station. This was a great way to put the learning in the students hands and see what pieces of information they thought were important as they learned more about the hydrosphere today. #LeadOn #Orabs #technology #science

8th grade students have been learning about the Revolutionary War in History Class. As a cumulation assignment for the unit, students were given some of the historical events, important individuals involved and battles that happened during that time and were asked to create a timeline and organize the events, along with the people associated with those events. This was a great way for students to organize all of the information from the unit and review for their test coming up. #orabs #LeadOn #history

8th Grade Students have started their Science Fair preparation. The Science Fair process lasts six weeks and the students are now into week four of the journey. The first three weeks were spent 1) determining their central question to be investigated and formulating an hypothesis, describing how they expect the project to turn out; 2) designing a method that can be used to FAIRLY test each of the samples they choose to test; and 3) researching their topic to find out about the science concepts, principles, and laws that will dictate and help determine the final outcome of their testing. Students are truly in the driver's seat as they develop the central questions for their project, in addition to formulating an hypothesis and designing a method for testing. Science Fair is off to a great start this year! #science #orabs #LEADON

7th graders are working on developing fraction sense in math class. In class they used pictures to help them determine the smallest, biggest, those close to half, and then ordered them. Being able to "see" the fraction amount helps our students' better understand the variety of fractions that they will be working with throughout their fraction units. #leadon #orabs #math

The 7th graders in Mrs. Woelber's TA spent some of their TA time talking about Habit 5: Think Win-Win. After the discussion students decided to color and write notes for residents of our local assisted living and senior living centers! The students hope to “fill their buckets” when the residents get their pictures and notes! #leadon #orabs

6th graders are continuing to learn more about the different systems of the body. Right now they are learning about the circulatory system, including blood, blood vessels and the heart. After learning what makes up blood (plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets) the students made a model using corn syrup, red hots, mini marshmallows and cookie sprinkles to represent what is all in their blood. The students then had to draw their models, labeled all the parts and described the function of each part. Next up they are going to be learning how the blood moves through the chambers of the heart and to the lungs. Way to go 6th Grade! #leadon #science #orabs
