Have you ever wonder what a popular food is in India or Norway? Have you ever wondered what some popular activities are in France or Egypt? The 7th graders answered all of these questions and more at the 7th Grade Cultural Fair this week at the Sheldon Middle School. Students researched different countries and then created a board presentation to share their information on their country. The 6th graders traveled to Camp Foster in Spirit Lake on Friday for their outdoor field trip. The day was filled with games, archery, hiking, and more. The students had a great time learning some new outdoor activities. #LeadOn #orabs #sheldonorabs #fieldtrip #campfoster #archery

The Sheldon Community Schools will once again be serving our summer meals. These meals are free to children 18 years of age and younger; parents are also welcome to attend. This year we will be serving meals at East Elementary (use the north door - look for signs to be posted) and meals will be eaten on site. 5th graders were able to practice their coding skills with the Ozobots. The Ozobot follows lines drawn on white paper. Colors drawn in different sequences tell the Ozobot what to do. Do you know how to calculate the density of a liquid? (Density = mass/volume) The sixth grade science students first learned how to find the mass of a liquid so they then could calculate the density of the liquid. After all calculations were complete, they poured the liquids into a beaker and checked to see if the way the liquids layered matched their calculations. They did! 7th grader Aftyn Dietrick created the winning pixel art for the second semester at Sheldon Middle School. As a winner, her art was then enlarged into a mural that will hang in the Middle School. Aftyn and and number of seventh graders worked together to enlarge and transfer the grid, match colors, and paint every square. The team included Ana Chavez-Morales, Estrella Chavez-Morales, Justina Van Regenmorter, Lesly Ramos-Morales, Addisyn Kavanagh, and Bailey Harn. SCHEDULE UPDATE: Middle School Boys and Girls Track @ Storm Lake on May 9th will now be a 4:00 PM start for field events, with running events to begin at 4:30.

The sixth grade students were given four mystery liquids and had to test the chemical property of flammability. They dipped strips of paper into each of the four mystery liquids and then held the strip of paper over an open flame. During Wellness Day at the Middle School, students had Mrs. Cabrera's dog, Rafa, come in to visit. The students learned how to draw and paint pet portraits of their own. These students did an amazing job with their paintings. #LeadOn #orabs #sheldonorabs #pets #art #painting

The 7th and 8th graders finished up their Pickleball Unit in PE by holding the annual Pickleball Championships. Congratulations to Jack Brink (7th Grade) and Levi Lang and Caiden Jager (8th Grade) for winning 1st place this year! #LeadOn #orabs #sheldonmiddleschool #pickleball

6th graders explored the densities of water and cooking oil. They measured predetermined volumes of each liquid, poured them into jars, made observations, shook them for two minutes and then let them settle for ten minutes to see if the liquids would separate back into two layers. #LeadOn #orabs #science #learning #sheldonmiddleschool

7th grader, Natilie Schmith was able to present her winning app design from the Congressional App Challenge in Washington DC last week for Day of Code at the US Capital Building. Natilie created a mental health app and was selected as a winner this past fall. While in DC she was also able to sit in on congressional keynote speakers, presentations focusing on STEM, hear from previous winners, tour DC and more.
