The Life Skills students have been learning more about mental health, how to improve their mental health, and what to do if you feel like you need help. The students had a guest speaker come to class to talk more about the Student Assistance Program (SAP). SAP partners with a variety of school districts to provide support to students. The Student Assistance Program is free and designed for assessment, brief counseling and referral. Counselors help explore issues, offer coping skills, as well as recommendations referrals for services outside of the SAP sessions. Thank you to our guest speaker, Steve Arneson for your information and presentation! #LeadOn #Sheldonorabs #mentalhealth #learning #orabs #highschool

Contemporary Writing students have been working on writing formal business letters and emails. Mrs. Wolf gives the students a real life scenario and they need to write a letter or email that responds to the scenario. This is great real life practice for our students as they prepare to enter the workforce. #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #writing #highschoolwriting

In High School Chemistry, students observed what happens to the temperature of water during the phase changes from a solid to a liquid to a gas. They collected temperature data every minute for about 20 minutes while heat energy was constantly being added to the system. Students then graphed their data, identified the different variables of the experiment, and gave a reasoning to the results they obtained. Great work Chemistry students! #Sheldon #Chemistry #orabs #sheldonorabs #leadOn #highschool

Quickwrites are done twice a week in English 10 at the High School. Students write about different topics during this time in a variety of different writing styles throughout the year. The length of each Quickwrite gets longer throughout the year to increase their writing stamina. They also have specific revision time to work on continually making their writing better! #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #writing #improvement #englishclass

Welcome to the District Nick Miller! We are happy to announce the new High School Principal has been hired for the next school year. Mr. Miller is currently the secondary principal (7-12) at Tekamah-Herman Schools in Tekamah, Nebraska. He has a northwest Iowa connection, as his wife Maggie is an MOC graduate. Nick and Maggie have two young children, and the family is excited to make Sheldon their home and join our school family. Mr. Miller attained his B.A. degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, his M.Ed. from Dordt, and his Ed.S from Wayne State. Prior to serving as secondary principal at Tekamah, he was the associate principal at North Platte for a couple of years. Mr. Miller enjoys spending time with his family, being outside and being active and watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Cleveland Guardians. Today is National Read Aloud Day! The High School Library Club visited East Elementary to celebrate and read aloud to each classroom. Tonight would be a great night to sit with your child and read aloud to them. Reading aloud is one of the most important things parents and teachers can do with children. Reading aloud introduces vocabulary, shows students how to read fluently, allows students to hear expressive reading, and helps children recognize what reading for pleasure is all about! #nationalreadaloudday #orabs #sheldon #orabs #sheldonorabs #reading #readaloud #books
