Welcome to the District Nick Miller!
We are happy to announce the new High School Principal has been hired for the next school year. Mr. Miller is currently the secondary principal (7-12) at Tekamah-Herman Schools in Tekamah, Nebraska. He has a northwest Iowa connection, as his wife Maggie is an MOC graduate. Nick and Maggie have two young children, and the family is excited to make Sheldon their home and join our school family.
Mr. Miller attained his B.A. degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, his M.Ed. from Dordt, and his Ed.S from Wayne State. Prior to serving as secondary principal at Tekamah, he was the associate principal at North Platte for a couple of years.
Mr. Miller enjoys spending time with his family, being outside and being active and watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Cleveland Guardians.
Welcome to the District Mr. Miller!

Lunch is a fun time at school, but recently it was a lot more entertaining when some of the students took on some of the High School teachers in a friendly game of dodgeball over lunch.

Today is National Read Aloud Day!
The High School Library Club visited East Elementary to celebrate and read aloud to each classroom.
Tonight would be a great night to sit with your child and read aloud to them. Reading aloud is one of the most important things parents and teachers can do with children. Reading aloud introduces vocabulary, shows students how to read fluently, allows students to hear expressive reading, and helps children recognize what reading for pleasure is all about!

Across all of our buildings and classrooms chances are that if you walk into a classroom, you will see a "Bell Ringer" posted or being discussed at the beginning of class.
Bell Ringers are used to engage students in short assignments or assessments, review key concepts that have already been taught, stimulate classroom discussion or used to find misconceptions and misunderstandings students may have before the new lesson starts.
Whether its a number sorting activity in Kindergarten, identifying which words are verbs in 5th grade, asking your partner to make a list of pros and cons to a new school rule in 8th grade or completing a sample math problem at the high school our teachers do a great job of starting class off with Bell Ringers to get our students focused on the learning target for the day.

Students in Mr. Anderson's Chemistry Class performed a double replacement reaction lab between sodium bicarbonate and acetic acid.
They calculated the theoretical yield of the product sodium acetate by solving a stoichiometric calculation from the balanced chemical equation of the reaction.
Once the reaction was completed, the actual yield of sodium acetate was measured and students solved for the % yield of their reaction.
